How to Dress to Look 10 Pounds Lighter

Adding a few staple clothing pieces to the wardrobe can instantly take 10 pounds off your frame without even going to the gym. Changing the way you dress can make it look like you have spent hours at the gym without even breaking a sweat.

Gone are the days of dressing all in black and baggy clothes to hide figure flaws. Contrary to what was thought in the past, dressing in loose fitting clothes can actually create the illusion of looking bigger than one actually is. Follow the next tips to look ten pounds lighter instantly.

1.       Find the right cut of clothing. Finding clothes with a flattering cut and form to them will actually flatter your frame. The right cut of clothes can actually slenderize certain problem parts of the body such as the butt, hips and thighs.

2.       Tailor clothes. Investing in having clothes made to fit your frame can help you look thinner. Hemming pants and shirts to the proper length as well as taking in the sides can help you look slim and trim.

3.       Watch patterns. Picking the right pattern that is flattering can be tricky but it makes all the difference. Big and loud patterns can present the illusion of being bigger than one actually is. Putting on a shirt with an unflattering pattern may leave one to reach for the fat pills, when all that is needed is a different shirt.

4.       Get enough rest. Nothing can age us more than missing a good night’s rest. It is important to get 7 to 8 hours of sleep each night to look as youthful and fit as possible. If you have trouble falling asleep on your own, the use of natural sleep aids can ensure a good night’s rest.

Finally, when you feel and look good, it shows. Ever notice how certain clothes make you feel more confident and assured? This also has an additional subliminal positive effect on the mind in that that confidence leads to walking and standing taller which will also make you look thinner.

Proper Breathing Methods During Exercise

Wednesday, January 7th, 2009

One of the common mistakes that people commit during exercise is incorrect breathing procedures or not breathing at all. Breathing incorrectly during exercise can be the source of fatigue and over exertion. Incorrect breathing patterns during exercise can also cause high blood pressure while working-out. The following tips can help you to get the most out of your workout through proper breathing techniques.

  1. Breathe on the exertion part of the exercise. For example when you are doing a sit-up, breathing out when lifting the body from the floor is the proper breathing technique. This will benefit you the most when conducting an exercise.
  2. Never hold your breath during an exercise! This is extremely important because as mentioned before holding your breath can lead to high blood pressure, dizziness and fatigue. When you exercise it is extremely important to get as much oxygen as possible to the muscles.
  3. Breathe! While it is important to have good technique, if it is more comfortable to breath on the rest portion of an exercise, by all means do it. Breathing is important no matter how it is done. With this in mind, more vigorous exercises should have faster paced breathing rhythms; where as controlled exercises such as Pilates and Yoga have slower, fuller breaths.

As can be seen it is extremely important to breathe while exercising, this will make the exercise feel less strenuous and more likely to be done again. In conjunction to exercising, it is important to watch what you eat. Lifestyle in conjunction with the diet is very important to lose weight. This means cutting out sugars and refined starches in the diet and incorporating more fruits, vegetables, grains, and protein shakes into food choices.

Prevent Stress This Holiday Season

Monday, December 22nd, 2008

Between the hustle and bustle of the holiday festivities, there may seem like an overwhelming amount of tasks to accomplish. Aside from the regular activities and responsibilities, having to shop for the perfect gift and entertaining guests may seem like a lot to accomplish. Follow the following tips to help reduce stress this holiday season.

  1. Remember that everything does not have to be perfect. It is the little imperfections that build lasting and pleasurable memories. How boring would everything be if things always worked according to plan? If while making dinner, some food accidentally gets burned, it is not the end of the world. Instead it is a very memorable experience and a great story to tell the grandkids.
  2. Take time to relax. Tending to the needs of others 24/7 can be more than exhausting. Taking a little time for oneself is the best way to take care of others. Even if five minutes are all you can spare, five minutes alone are five minutes well spent.  Take this time to close your eyes and count your blessings. Enjoy a warm beverage such as hoodia tea, or hot chocolate. It will do wonders.
  3. Get enough sleep: Not getting enough shut eye can lead to many unhealthy side-effects. Since sleep deprivation and reaction time are related, getting enough sleep will keep you on top of your game. Since lack of sleep is also related to weight gain, getting the recommended 7 hours of sleep a night can help you to stay slim and trim.
  4. Watch your diet and exercise. Getting enough exercise and watching the diet are very important to keeping fit during the holidays and is the best prevention in putting on extra pounds going into the New Year. A supplemental diet pill can also assist in weight loss.

Weight Loss Crunch Time

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

Officially the holiday season has arrived and soon it will be in full swing.  Wanting to look great for upcoming events, an aggressive weight loss routine is needed, but can one be done safely?  The following weight loss tips will assist in making the best decisions for quick weight loss.

  1. Make a promise to yourself to not eat high calorie, non-nutritional foods. These include candies and cookies as well as chips and other snacks. Instead fill the refrigerator with healthy snacks such as low calorie fruits and vegetables.
  2. Drink plenty of fluids. The ideal choice is water since it is calorie free. Most beverages are a hidden source of sugar and fat. At the mall skip the double mocha frappe with extra whipped cream. There are an astounding amount of calories that can be avoided in many dessert drinks. Most people also confuse thirst for hunger. Staying fully hydrated will help to cut back on consuming extra calories. Some people have also tried hoodia diet pills to keep away cravings.
  3. Get plenty of exercise. In conjunction with a diet pill, exercise is a great stress buster that will melt away the fat.
  4. Get plenty of rest- sleep deprivation and reaction time go hand in hand. While it may seem like there are not enough hours in the day, burning the candle at both ends will have an effect on your waistline. Research shows that people who are deprived of sleep crave high carbohydrate and sugary foods which can add on the pounds. Getting enough rest will help the body to control the appetite and eat proper foods.

Tryptophan Effects

Monday, November 24th, 2008

Almost synonymous for the word turkey, tryptophan is as Thanksgiving as pumpkin pie. Said to be responsible for the entire couch -napping male population after Thanksgiving dinner, tryptophan affects the levels of serotonin in the brain, inducing a feeling of sleepiness.

So what exactly is it about tryptophan that brings on slumber? The answer lies in the chemical composition of tryptophan. Tryptophan is an essential amino acid that the body needs, and could be found in foods rich in protein content such as poultry, eggs, chocolate, and cheeses. Being an essential amino acid means that it is critical to health and body function; however it is not an amino acid that the body can make on its own. For this reason, food is the only source of this dietary staple, and turkey is an excellent source of it.

Tryptophan also shows promise as an effective anti-depressant and well as PMS aid.  Serotonin, a hormone that causes a feeling of calm and peace is increased in the presence of tryptophan.  This increased level of serotonin induces sleepiness.  It is considered by some as one of the greatest natural sleep aids.

While tryptophan is a promoter of sleep, often the sleep that results from Turkey Day over- indulgence is from over-loading on carbohydrates and alcohol. Portion control and loading up on vegetables as opposed to stuffing are the best weight loss tips for Thanksgiving.

Remembering that the best way to lose weight is through diet and exercise, taking a long walk outside with family and friends after dinner is a great way to bond and work off that extra slice of pie!

Determine Your Sleep Personality

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

How one sleeps can reveal a lot about who an individual is during their waking hours. Researchers who have been studying sleep patterns have been able to link personality traits to the position they sleep in at night. Each of the sleep styles is listed below and will be identified.

There are several different sleep positions that a person can fall into. The positions include: the feotus, the log, the yearner, the soldier, freefall, and starfish. Each position identifies a type of personality that reflects the type of person with whom the style matches.

The Feotus

The feotus position is the most popular position, especially among women. As the name suggests, this style resembles the fetal position in which one lies to one side. One arm is usually under the head and the other in front.  People who this style relates to are often shy when first meeting somebody. They tend to be tough on the outside, but deep down have a caring heart.

The Log

Someone who may be referred to as a log sleeps on their side with both arms to their sides. These people are very social and trusting in nature.

The Yearner

Open-minded yet cynical, these people sleep on their side with both arms in front of their body.

The Solider

Similar to standing at attention, soldier sleepers sleep on their back with an arm at each side. These people could be called perfectionists and like little fuss. They are often very quiet.

The Freefall

These people sleep on their stomach with the head to one side. Their arms are wrapped around their pillow. Freefall people are very friendly and do not respond to criticism very well.

The Starfish

Starfish are always ready to listen and do not like to be the center of attention. They sleep on their back with their arms behind their pillow.

No matter how you sleep, because sleep deprivation and reaction time are related, it is important to get enough rest each night. Besides helping one to stay focused and on top of their game, getting enough sleep can help one lose weight as it keep appetite suppressing hormones at proper levels. For people who have trouble falling asleep at night, doing an online herbal remedies advice search can offer helpful suggestions.

Sleep Aids and Insomnia

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

While we all suffer from a restless night of sleep now and again, insomnia is a condition that people suffer from when they do not get enough sleep, or have difficulty staying asleep over a long period of time. Since sleep is a vital function to maintain health both mentally and physically, those who suffer from insomnia need to seek treatment for their condition. As studies indicate sleep deprivation and reaction time are related, therefore depriving the body of rest can be harmful to oneself and others.

There are two types of insomnia: acute and chronic. Each of these types will be explored in the following paragraphs.

Acute insomnia is when an individual suffers from insomnia over a short period of time. These symptoms can occur for a variety of reasons of which include stress, diet, depression, medication or change in daily routine. Chronic insomnia on the other hand is when sleepless symptoms occur over long periods of time.

There methods that can help combat against insomnia, these include natural sleep aids. Natural sleep aids do not contain any addictive ingredients that can disrupt other body functions or lead to dependency.

Adopting better bed time habits can also alleviate the symptoms of insomnia. Creating a cool and comfortable environment that promotes sleep is vital to getting the best sleep possible. Additionally,  turning to herbal remedies , such as lavender can help induce a peaceful and complete sleep.

Extreme cases of insomnia may require the participation in a sleep study as the cause of insomnia may be related to other medical conditions.

Drop a Dress Size Quickly

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

Chances are that when scanning radio stations in your car, you have already come across at least one station that is playing holiday music. This may be a very bittersweet experience in that the holidays are approaching and that it calls awareness to the fact that it is time to lose a few extra pounds that have managed to sneak on recently. While it is close to Thanksgiving, there is still ample time to look great in that new holiday dress. Following the listed recommendations will ensure a slimmer and sexier you in time for the holiday season.

  1. Cut calories: by cutting calories by 500 a day, one can lose a pound a week. This can be achieved by simply cutting out a daily latte or rich snack. These snacks are often loaded with calories which can be devastating to a diet. If you always feel hungry, an appetite suppressant such as Hoodia Gordonii can help suppress cravings.
  2. Hit the gym: adding exercise to your daily routine is a great way to reduce stress not to mention shed a few pounds. Since the weather is not as outdoor friendly in the winter as it is in the summer, since the gym is inside, there is no reason not to go.  Additionally, hitting the gym will help to build a stronger heart and body. Even the best diet pills can not provide the cardiovascular and stress reducing benefits a half hour at the gym can.
  3. Get enough rest: Not getting enough sleep can actually backfire on you. Sleep deprivation is actually a reason that some people gain weight! Try taking a natural sleep aid for restless nights. Doing so will help to keep weight at bay an provide an increase in energy to check off everything on the to-do list.

Proper Sleep Can Prevent Pre-Mature Aging

Friday, September 5th, 2008

Adequate sleep is fundamental for the body to perform properly. The importance of quality sleep is obvious for preventing various health issues but one of the most overlooked reasons why sleep is so valuable is because it can actually slow the rate at which the body ages.

While you sleep, your body has a chance to rejuvenate itself both mentally and physically. It can speed up healing of injuries or surgeries, increase weight-loss, boost immune function, and help to manage or reduce stress. These are all things that are very taxing on the body and when sleep deprivation occurs the body begins to fall apart from the inside out.

Key hormones are released during your sleep which helps to slow the aging process and repair cell damage. Between the hours of 11 and 1am your body produces human growth hormone (HGH). Insufficient sleep inhibits the production of growth hormone which ultimately leads to physical deterioration, emotional problems, and premature aging.

About 40% of Americans do not get enough sleep each night which increases more than just health or premature aging; it can also impair brain function during the day and increase the risk of accidents. In order to prevent these problems from occurring, you should try to get about 8 hours of quality rest each night. Studies show that sleeping less than 8 hours a night can begin wreaking havoc over a period of time.  Proper sleep can boost mood, encourage weight-loss, slow the aging process, reduce the stress hormone cortisol, and help to stabilize hunger and blood sugar levels in the body.

There is some truth to the saying “get your beauty sleep” as it can really help to keep you looking beautiful longer. Things to consider during the day that will help you achieve better rest are limiting the amount of alcohol or caffeine you consume and eating a well balanced diet packed with super foods like, berries, veggies, salmon, raw almonds, oatmeal, and lean sources of protein.
